Japanese studio Nendo designed a collection of boat shoes for iconic Italian footwear and bag brand Tod’s. Nendo combines two materials for the shoes’s upper – a soft leather for the vamp, and suede for the quarter and backstay – and visually connected the two materials with side detail like an envelope’s string tie.
A rubber sole like those traditionally used for deck shoes emphasises the Tod’s design lineage, and carefully hidden, near-invisible stitching bring out the softness of the shoes while inside, a highly breathable mesh inner gives lightness and a sense of relaxation.
