adidas Originals continues it longstanding collaboration with NIGO, introducing a new rendition of the iconic Superstar 80s silhouette. Many designers try and tap into the zeitgeist, but designer/creative NIGO has proved time and time again that he is a master of the craft. An undisputed game-changer within style culture, NIGO’s ability to connect the dots between tradition and the future, East and West, and pop culture and high art has become his calling card and is highlighted in his latest collaboration with adidas Originals – the Superstar 80s by NIGO.
Tokyo is one of the most dynamic and creatively diverse cities on the planet, but it wasn’t always as synonymous with influential street fashion as it is today. A huge chunk of that credit belongs to NIGO, whose freewheeling eye and talent for re-appropriating iconography reimagined the Japanese scene in the 90s. As his brand grew from its origins as a small clothing store in Harajuku into a globally recognised cult, NIGO wrote the rulebook for all others to follow.
NIGO paved the way for all Japanese streetwear labels to connect with a massive global audience. NIGO’s eye for classic iconography is illustrated in his Superstar 80s sneaker. Featuring the signature adidas Originals by NIGO ‘Grand Slam’ graphic, the all-over print envelops the upper of the Superstar 80s model and is a fitting homage to his love of sportswear and Americana – and of course classic footwear.
