Selection of Shower Paint
Pick the bathroom or shower paints made for bathroom tiles. You can find versatile brands and models of paint. Usually, paints with a smooth yet a bit glossy finish are preferable to renew the bathroom tiles. In such cases, semi-glossy paints are good.
However, you can also use satin or gloss paints, depending on how brighter you want. Satin provides the least shiny surface, whereas the bathroom gets a bold and vintage look. For an extra bright shower, you can choose glossy paint. Semi-gloss paints are neither too bright nor too dim.
But the shininess depends on the light you use in the bathroom. Excessive light can reflect color from the surface well, which turns the color into a vivid one.
You need to take off grouting or filling the spaces on the tiles first. The reason behind this is the selected paint doesn’t work on grouting shrink.
You can start painting by small spots for enormous help. As an instance, you can start from a corner around the toilet to avoid failure. Additionally, you should prepare a bucket and sponge roller for further painting.
Floor some plastic sheets on the surface depending on the messing up of the project. Then, pull all the drawers out and move the shelves. Remove anything from the countertop, sink cabinets.
Mask off the areas to prevent paint from spilling onto them. Cover the mounted faucets or knobs on the surfaces with masking tape if available.
All these make the job simple and time-saving. Now, follow these procedures to complete the task:
Use duct tape to mask the tiles around the grout if it is still quite fresh-looking. You need not worry if the grout color doesn’t match your paint. It will be covered after painting or removed soon. Ensure that you filled all the gaps to prevent water from accumulating. It reduces the risks of causing further problems.
Wipe bathroom cabinets, door frames with a sponge roller by rolling on them. It cleans all the dirt from all nooks and crannies. Be careful to remove faucets, soap dispensers as there is a risk of breaking fixtures.
Fill up all the wall holes which are left after removing fixtures. You can use joint compounds or spackle to fill them.
Apply tape over all the grout joints giving minimal (not too much) pressure. They may get damaged in touch of water later if you put heavy pressure. Ensure that tape edges are tight and smooth.
Take the paint roller and dip in the selected paint. For paint, you may choose waterproof shower paint (or acrylic) based on water. Start rolling from one side of the bathroom to the other. Overlap each section by 50 percent when you start painting. It helps to hide any line after drying the surface.
Making sure you haven’t missed any spot, wait for the paint to dry well. This dry-to-touch time is usually 12-24 hours. Take help of a knife or razor blade to level the lines if they appear between two colors.
Remove all the masking tape when the surface is arid. Then, connect all the fixtures back into their original places if necessary.
Clean the used sponge roller with warm water as you need the next coat on bathroom tiles. Please make sure the roller has no water inside it; otherwise, tiles may warp or crack. After rinsing out all residues, wring it out thoroughly before returning to use.
Follow the 5-8th steps to do the second coat. Fix the areas where paint seeped through cracks with spackles. Before fixing these spots, wipe the area with mild detergent. Wait for everything to dry well.
That’s all for the tiles remodeling project. Your tiles will get a new and attractive look which please your eyes.
