Nestled in the lush countryside near Gaucín, between Marbella and Gibraltar, Cortijo Genesis is a breathtaking boutique hotel that blends mid-century Palm Springs flair with the rustic charm of Andalusia. Designed by interior architect Victoria-Maria Geyer, this 600-square-metre property is a masterclass in colourful, eclectic design, offering an intimate escape for up to 12 guests across five uniquely styled bedrooms.

Once a forgotten ruin, the Cortijo Genesis has been reimagined as a bohemian oasis, where every corner tells a story. The exterior sets the tone with white wrought-iron sun loungers, pink-and-red upholstered seating, and a courtyard adorned with a tiled fountain that evokes the romance of a Spanish hacienda. Blue-and-white striped parasols nod to the nearby Mediterranean, while undulating multicoloured tabletops add a playful touch.

Inside, each room draws inspiration from semi-precious stones—think aventurine green, citrine yellow, and lapis lazuli blue—with neutral walls serving as a canvas for bold fabrics and curated decor. Victoria-Maria’s signature style shines through in details like woven raffia heads by Natalia Brilli, modernist tapestries by Marc Baumann, and statement lamps from Heaps & Woods. The bathrooms feature basins with floral and celestial motifs, a personal favourite of the designer.

The common areas are equally enchanting. The rainbow-painted ceiling in the reading room radiates joy, while the living area showcases Wenceslas sofas from Heimat, Victoria-Maria’s own collection. A 1960s Roger Capron table anchors the kitchen, complemented by saffron-yellow tiles and a linen painting by Gordon Hopkins. The pièce de résistance? A 1974 Waldemar Rothe hammock from Rosenthal, inviting guests to unwind in style.

With its thoughtful curation and bold aesthetic, Cortijo Genesis is more than a stay—it’s an immersive experience. Victoria-Maria Geyer has crafted a space where design, art, and nature harmonise, proving that even the most neglected structures can be reborn as luxurious, joyful retreats.
