Milan,, a city rich in history and design, is a master of reinvention, continuously breathing new life into its storied spaces. Bar Nico, the latest gem in the city’s lively nightlife scene, exemplifies this urban transformation. Once a bustling neighborhood pasta factory and later a tire shop, this space has undergone a remarkable metamorphosis, emerging as a sanctuary for wine enthusiasts. It stands as a powerful testament to the art of adaptive reuse, showcasing how the old can beautifully blend with the new.

Sagoma Studio has masterfully preserved traces of the building’s layered history, most notably in the flooring. This tangible palimpsest serves as a constant reminder of the space’s evolution, a narrative etched in tile and concrete. It’s a grounding element, connecting patrons to the generations who kneaded dough and changed tires within these same walls.

The design seamlessly blends old and new. Warm, inviting wood tables, just large enough for intimate gatherings, are paired with classic bistro chairs, creating a comfortable and convivial atmosphere. The carefully curated lighting casts a soft glow, highlighting the textures and nuances of the space. The overall effect is one of understated elegance, a place where one can comfortably linger over a glass of wine and engage in conversation.

The operating area, a striking contrast to the warmth of the seating area, is conceived as a distinct installation. Constructed from concrete and steel, it possesses a sculptural quality, commanding attention while maintaining functionality. This bold, minimalist approach adds a contemporary edge to the space, juxtaposing beautifully with the historical elements. The gleaming surfaces of the installation reflect the ambient light, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow.

This focal point of the bar is further enhanced by the inclusion of the Inox 398 kitchen mixer. Its sleek, modern design, featuring a black flexible hose and hand shower, complements the industrial aesthetic of the operating area. The mixer, more than just a functional element, becomes an integral part of the installation, a testament to the studio’s attention to detail and commitment to design excellence.
