Anchored in Time: DIMORESTUDIO's Etage 5, A Nautical Reverie in Saint-Tropez

Andrea Ferrari

Perched high within the iconic Latitude 43, Georges-Henri Pingusson’s 1930s masterpiece in Saint-Tropez, DIMORESTUDIO has orchestrated a symphony of design, transforming a 120-square-meter fifth-floor apartment into a captivating homage to the Modern Movement and the allure of the sea. This isn’t merely a renovation; it’s a carefully crafted narrative, a dialogue between history, design, and the breathtaking panorama of the French Riviera.

Latitude 43, originally a grand hotel, stands as a tribute to rationalist architecture, its lines and windows echoing the sleek forms of ocean liners. It’s within this context that Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran, the visionary minds behind DIMORESTUDIO, embarked on their journey, breathing new life into a space steeped in history.

The apartment, with its sweeping sea-view terrace, becomes a stage for a nuanced exploration of design influences. The spirit of the Bauhaus and the enduring legacy of Gio Ponti permeate the space, expressed through a considered palette and material selection. Vietri tiles, their coral red hues reminiscent of Ponti’s work at the Hotel Parco dei Principi, evoke the sun-drenched shores of the Mediterranean. Walls painted in deep navy blue and soft light green create an atmosphere of refined intimacy, a subtle nod to the nautical theme.

The living room, the apartment’s vibrant core, pays homage to this philosophy. In this space, design masterpieces from the 20th century—such as Gabriella Crespi, Marcel Breuer, Le Corbusier, Romeo Rega, Luigi Caccia Dominioni, and Eileen Gray—intertwine effortlessly with pieces from Dimoremilano, weaving together a rich tapestry of diverse styles and eras.

This isn’t a museum; it’s a home. Decorative elements, such as Bitossi ceramics and figurative artworks, infuse the space with a sense of lived-in charm, each object telling a story of travel and experience. The interplay between design icons and personal narratives creates an environment that feels both curated and deeply personal.

DIMORESTUDIO’s approach is akin to that of a master tailor, meticulously attending to every detail. The placement of a vase, the subtle glow of a lamp—each element is carefully considered, contributing to a harmonious whole. This meticulous attention to detail transforms the apartment into a space that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also profoundly functional and intimate.

The Etage 5 project is a perfect embodiment of DIMORESTUDIO‘s unique vision: to create spaces that feel like scenes from an auteur film, capturing the essence of a moment and transforming it into a timeless living experience. In Saint-Tropez, they have crafted a nautical reverie, a space where the past and present converge, offering a serene and sophisticated retreat against the backdrop of the azure Mediterranean.
