Benjamin Hubert‘s LAYER Design Studio has unveiled “PiA,” a visionary concept that reimagines the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence. Departing from the sterile, often impersonal nature of current AI assistants, PiA focuses on creating an emotionally resonant and deeply personal user experience.

At the heart of PiA lies a suite of interconnected devices: a smartphone, a biometric earbud, and a wearable camera module. These devices work in concert, seamlessly collecting data about the user’s environment and physical state. This information is then processed by an advanced AI system, providing personalized insights and recommendations tailored to the individual’s needs.
“PiA was born from a desire to bring emotion to artificial intelligence,” explains Benjamin Hubert, Founder of LAYER. “In a world where AI is often feared, we believe that fear is rooted in its ‘artificial’ label. Our mission was to make it more human.”

The smartphone, crafted from recycled glass, embodies a minimalist aesthetic that prioritizes functionality and user experience. Its edge-to-edge display offers an immersive visual experience, while the integration of transparent OLEDs elegantly conceals the front-facing camera.

The biometric earbud, worn discreetly in the ear, tracks vital signs such as heart rate and body temperature, providing valuable insights into the user’s overall well-being. This data, combined with environmental information gathered by the wearable camera module, allows PiA to offer personalized health and wellness advice, from optimized sleep schedules to personalized fitness routines.

Beyond practical applications, PiA aims to cultivate a genuine emotional connection with its users. The AI assistant is designed to exhibit emotional intelligence, conveying its responses through subtle visual cues and a more human-like conversational style. This personalized approach aims to foster a sense of trust and companionship, transforming the user-AI interaction from a purely functional one to a more meaningful and enriching experience.
“PiA is not just a suite of devices; it’s a companion,” says Hubert. “It’s about creating an AI that understands and responds to the unique needs and emotions of each individual.”

LAYER‘s “PiA” concept represents a significant step forward in the evolution of human-computer interaction. By prioritizing human values and emotional connection, it offers a compelling vision for a future where AI seamlessly integrates into our lives, enhancing our experiences and enriching our lives in meaningful ways.
