In the heart of a bustling urban setting of Hyderabad, India, Sripriya Reddy Studio has transformed a compact first-floor space into Mexarosa, a Mexican-inspired restaurant that bursts with energy, bold hues, and intricate detailing. Designed to embody a maximalist aesthetic, the project embraces vibrant primary colours, traditional motifs, and clever spatial planning to create an immersive dining experience that feels both lively and intimate.

The design team took inspiration from Mexican culture, weaving in motifs like agave plants, sun symbols, and galloping horses across walls, upholstery, and tiles. Bright reds and blues dominate the palette, evoking the spirited essence of Mexico, while soft pink accents in the dining area provide a harmonious contrast. This playful yet deliberate use of colour ensures the space feels dynamic without overwhelming the senses.

Accessibility posed an initial challenge—the restaurant is only reachable via a staircase, but the studio turned this constraint into an opportunity. The entrance guides guests upward into a carefully zoned layout, splitting the space into a low-seating family area and a high-energy bar section with upbeat music. A metal jaali screen subtly divides the indoor and outdoor zones, maintaining visual connectivity while defining distinct atmospheres.

What truly sets Mexarosa apart are its custom design elements. From hand-painted borders to a long pink-and-blue striped sofa, every detail feels intentional. The bar dazzles with custom-printed tiles, while lighting by Arjun Rathi casts an ambient glow, enhancing the restaurant’s dramatic yet welcoming vibe. Above, a bamboo-clad ceiling filters daylight, adding warmth and texture while softening the bold interiors.

Despite its compact footprint, the restaurant never feels cramped—thanks to smart space planning. The studio balanced low lounge seating with elevated bar stools, ensuring flexibility for different dining moods. Even the execution was strategic: the team worked in phases to avoid disrupting operations, proving that thoughtful logistics are as crucial as aesthetics.

Material choices were kept simple—wood, wicker, and metal—but it’s the explosion of colour and pattern that defines Mexarosa. The result is a space that doesn’t just serve food but celebrates Mexican heritage through design, offering guests a feast for the eyes as much as the palate. For Sripriya Reddy Studio, this project is a testament to how bold interiors, cultural storytelling, and intelligent planning can come together to create something unforgettable.
