A home renovation isn’t always about achieving pristine perfection. Often, it’s about capturing the richness of a life lived, accelerating time to reveal a space that feels both renewed and deeply personal. This philosophy guided the design of the Station123 Apartment, a recent project by 02A Studio in Rome. The aim was to translate the playful and whimsical spirit of a family into a home that radiates joy and reflects their passions.

Located in the historic Villa Fiorelli area, the apartment resides within a charming social housing complex, a testament to a bygone era of architectural generosity. The layout, an L-shape with a single window-lined façade along the longer side, presents a classic corridor configuration where rooms unfold sequentially. 02A Studio cleverly reimagined this traditional layout, transforming it into a vibrant and interconnected living space.

The heart of the home is undoubtedly the living area, strategically positioned opposite the entrance. A central dining table acts as the nexus, around which the living room and kitchen organically flow, each space retaining its distinct identity. Crucially, these areas connect visually to the corridor via striking yellow-framed glass partitions. This design move cleverly multiplies perspectives and sightlines, effectively creating the illusion of a truly open-plan living space and dissolving the confines of the original layout.

From this central hub, the corridor extends in two directions. To one side, three arched doors, lacquered in a delicate sugar-paper blue, provide access to two bathrooms and a bedroom. On the opposite side, a full-height pivot door leads to two further bedrooms, offering a sense of separation and privacy.

The apartment’s aesthetic is a carefully curated blend of vintage finds, industrial-inspired details, antique treasures, and bespoke furnishings. This eclectic mix is elevated by the owners’ artistic contributions. Geometric frames and optical patterns, designed by the family themselves, punctuate thresholds and adorn the walls, creating a fascinating dialogue between art and architecture, and imbuing the space with a deeply personal touch.

The material palette further enhances the apartment’s unique character. Natural larch plank flooring provides a warm and inviting foundation, while the walls, intentionally left unpolished, showcase a raw-textured lime-based IG21 finish. This “unfinished” aesthetic beautifully complements the home’s rich and stimulating atmosphere, creating a sense of authenticity and lived-in comfort.

The Station123 Apartment is more than just a renovation; it’s a vibrant expression of family life. It’s an inviting and surprising space, a joyful synthesis of the diverse personalities that call it home. It’s a place where one instantly feels welcome, finds inspiration in every corner, and, most importantly, experiences the simple pleasure of happiness. 02A Studio has masterfully crafted a Roman rhapsody, a home that resonates with warmth, character, and the unmistakable imprint of a life well-lived.
