The confluence of luxury hospitality and avant-garde interior design has found a striking new expression in London, where the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park has unveiled the highly anticipated Pantone Celadon Suite. Conceived by the audacious Paris-based design collective Uchronia in collaboration with the Pantone Color Institute, this immersive space is less a hotel room and more a meticulously curated manifesto on the power of colour theory.

The Celadon Suite’s bed features a moiré fabric bedspread by Govindia Hemphill, fluidly designed to evoke the gentle movement of dripping water.

Uchronia, known for their emotionally resonant and theatrically joyful spaces, was tasked with reinterpreting the bespoke Mandarin Oriental Celadon Green shade—a hue described by the hotel group as carrying both serenity and strength. The resultant design, which debuted to coincide with Frieze London, offers guests a physical expression of a colour “rooted in heritage, yet boldly modern”.

Custom curtains, crafted to resemble delicate coral formations, frame the window and reinforce the suite’s immersive underwater theme.

Led by founder Julien Sebban, Uchronia embraced the colour’s aquatic potential, transforming the suite into a whimsical “weird underwater world” or aquatic dreamscape. Sebban’s vision was to craft an experience that evolves with the guest’s state of mind, balancing the calming spirit of the colour with moments of playfulness. This approach showcases a bold new direction for contemporary design that moves beyond traditional luxury paradigms.

The lounge area is anchored by a sculptural resin desk, its unique form a playful continuation of Uchronia’s aquatic-themed, high-craftsmanship design.

A key pillar of the project was the celebration of exceptional British craftsmanship. Uchronia meticulously integrated pieces from local studios and artisans, ensuring the custom-designed furnishings and textiles were original works of art. The bedroom, for instance, features moiré fabrics by Govindia Hemphill, designed to mimic the fluidity of dripping water, alongside furniture crafted from innovative extruded plastic by designer James Shaw.

British artistry is highlighted through pieces like a striking extruded plastic chair by James Shaw, seamlessly blending material innovation with fine design.

Throughout the lounge and bedroom, the concept of material innovation is continuously explored. Curtains are custom-made to evoke organic coral formations, while a specially designed bench and a striking resin desk continue the sub-aquatic theme. Even the bathroom is elevated by delicate glassware from artist Jochen Holz, proving that every surface and object contributes to the cohesive, saturated visual narrative of this high-end residential design.

A playful, coral-inspired bench and organically shaped furniture, including a Francesco Binfaré sofa, inject contemporary artistry into the luxury space.

Ultimately, the Pantone Celadon Suite is a transformative “immersive encounter,” inviting visitors into a new dimension where art and design seamlessly merge with high-end hospitality. For those seeking an holistic experience, the hotel even extended the concept into wellness, with The Spa offering a Celadonite-inspired treatment that harnesses the restorative qualities of the green crystal that defines the palette. This collaboration stands as a vibrant testament to Uchronia’s uninhibited creative spirit and a bold benchmark for the future of boutique hotel interiors.
