Nestled in the historic Art View House on the Moyka River Embankment, the new Eggsellent Cafe in St. Petersburg is a masterclass in balancing whimsy and refinement. Designed by KIDZ Studio, the project transforms a neoclassical building into a vibrant, yolk-inspired space that contrasts sharply with its austere exterior. The result is a contemporary interior design that feels both playful and elegant, a testament to the studio’s creative vision.
From above, the cafe’s layout mimics a plate of food, with the bar counter as its central “spilled yolk.” The glossy yellow floor gradients onto the walls, creating a dynamic visual effect, while seating arrangements scatter like salad leaves and spices around it. This clever interior architecture not only reflects the brand’s signature color palette—dominated by yellow and pink hues—but also reinforces its identity through rounded shapes and subtle glitter accents.
Initially, the team envisioned a bolder color scheme, but they opted for a more restrained approach to harmonize with the building’s neoclassical façade and the surrounding urban environment. This decision elevated the design, striking a balance between naivety and rationality, making it appealing to a broad audience.
The open kitchen and strategically placed seating enhance functionality without sacrificing style, proving that kid-friendly spaces can also be sophisticated.
