Home Décor Tips for 2021

Home Décor Tips for 2021

One of the best ways to make your house a home is by completely designing and decorating it by yourself. First home buyers jump at the opportunity to decorate their new home as it will usually be the first time they have had the chance to do so. Decorating your home can be a very exciting thing to do, especially because you can choose what to do with it and associate it with your style. With that being said, we all need some help now and again. If you’re interested, keep reading to find out some décor tips for 2021 and beyond.

Theme

The first thing to consider when you’re ready to revamp your home is a theme. Whatever theme you choose will then decide on and provide a route of what furniture to choose, what colour scheme to consider and so on. Think about your current style and what you enjoy being around and looking at. There are so many different themes to choose from including modern décor, art deco, bohemian chic, contemporary, elegant, minimal and industrial.  Or, if you can’t make up your mind, you can mix things up and incorporate antique furniture in your modern home! These styles can be reworked to suit your exact wants and requirements. For example, you can choose to have a minimalist living room but a bohemian chic bathroom.

There are truly no limits to what you can do with a theme. However, doing your research and choosing your theme(s) is a fantastic first step when approaching your interior. From here, we can then examine colour scheme, furniture and so much more that will suit your theme and style.

Choosing a colour scheme

Perhaps one of the most exciting steps in home décor is that of choosing your colour scheme. This is because it is such a wide topic of conversation and it can be easily changed allowing the conversation to go on as long as you’d like it too! If you have chosen a theme, it is useful to choose colours relating to the theme and provide a bit of context for the colours. For modern homes, there is generally a small colour scheme, whereby the natural colours are in few and seen on the walls and amongst the furniture. The small décor and accessories then consist of bolder colours. There is no right or wrong way to do this, but interior designers recommend considering your colour scheme before purchasing any furniture.

Choosing furniture

One useful thing about a colour scheme is that it can be regularly changed if that is your preference – this is great for those who enjoy sprucing up their interior every so often. On the other hand, furniture is usually constant, meaning that these are the items that won’t be changed more often than not. This is primarily because furniture can be very expensive and therefore difficult to replace. Furniture can make a huge difference to and impact on the feel of any room in your home. Thankfully, there are types of furniture that we can suit your chosen theme. If this is your first time purchasing furniture for your first home, interior designers recommend that you choose furniture that will suit different themes, rather than choosing one extravagant hot pink sofa that you’ll get tired of in a couple of months. But hey, if that’s what you want to do, go ahead!

When starting off, it is essential that you consider all of your interests. It is very easy to purchase cheap furniture online (all hail IKEA!), which means that we can often jump into buying the wrong products. We are then sadly left with an amalgamation of cluttered furniture that doesn’t suit our tastes or style. It is therefore useful to consider making some investments with luxury items that can be dressed up or dressed down to suit however you want your theme to look.

Décor and accessories

Once you have chosen your theme and colour scheme and picked out your furniture, you can then move onto your added décor and accessories. Interior experts recommend that you try not to buy everything at once and instead look around to find the perfect match for your style. Small businesses both online and offline offer amazing hand-crafted items that are usually one of a kind. This is a lovely way to add something special to your interior.

Generally, it is recommended that you invest in a few statement pieces that separate different features in the home. These can include a statement lampshade, bright rugs, luxury lighting and art features. There is so much more to choose from so make the sky your limit with your décor choices.

Flooring

A fifth thing to consider when designing and revamping your home is your flooring. Lucky for you, there is so much to choose from in terms of floor type, colour, style and so on. It is important to remember that there are different flooring types for different rooms around your home. For example, hardwood flooring is a fantastic choice for living areas and bedrooms because they are a great first impression on guests and they increase the value of your home. Hardwood is also easy to maintain and to clean. On the other hand, however, hardwood cannot withstand higher moisture levels. You’d therefore opt for another flooring type for your toilets and bathrooms such as luxury vinyl tiles and linoleum. Keep this in mind when making your decision!

Interior design

So, you’ve chosen your colour scheme, furniture, accessories and flooring – now what? From here, you’re probably wondering what the next steps are and lucky for you, there is a wealth of interior information and inspiration online. If you have a few ideas in mind, have a look on Instagram or Pinterest for pictures of your chosen theme. From here, you will hopefully be inspired to bring your home together to make it your own.
