Coming to the global stage in February 2024 at the prestigious Geneva International Motor Show, the Renault 5 E-Tech is set to make a bold statement. This modern and innovative take on the iconic Renault 5 car is a true game-changer. With its retro-futuristic design, this all-electric vehicle pays homage to the beloved hatchback model that first captured hearts back in 1972.
Renault has given the Renault 5 E-Tech a contemporary twist, combining the fun and style of the original with a more environmentally friendly approach. The glimpses of the production model that have been revealed so far showcase rugged wheel arches, a sleek soft-top roof profile, and a boxier bodywork, all reminiscent of its predecessor. And let’s not forget the charming smile on the front, which adds a touch of personality to this electric marvel.
Designed with the future in mind, the Renault 5 E-Tech is the perfect city car. Gilles Vidal, Renault’s Design Director, describes it as “a vehicle relevant to its time: urban, electric, attractive.” The exterior design details are a testament to this vision, with sleek and modern styling elements that pay homage to the original design. The bonnet air intake has been transformed into a charging flap, discreet LEDs power the logo and lighting signature, and the rear end is illuminated by flush-fit lights inspired by aeronautics. The unique LED headlights, resembling human eyes, give the Renault 5 E-Tech a distinctive and captivating look.
Not only is the Renault 5 E-Tech stylish and futuristic, but it is also environmentally conscious. The vehicle is crafted from at least 22% recycled materials and is over 85% recyclable, making it a sustainable choice for eco-conscious drivers.
When it comes to performance, the French manufacturer has not held back. The Renault 5 E-Tech will feature a powerful 100-kW electric motor and an impressive driving range of up to 400 km (248 miles) per charge. With a 52 kWh battery available, this electric vehicle is ready to take on the roads with confidence. Advanced technology features, including voice interaction with the official Renault avatar, Reno, will optimize the journey experience. Additionally, an onboard bidirectional charger allows the vehicle’s energy stores to power other devices, adding convenience to the mix.
Produced in Douai, France, Renault 5 E-Tech should be commercially available in Europe next summer, with prices starting at €25,000 (about US$27,636).
Renault has also unveiled a sneak peek into the electrification of another one of its iconic vehicles, the magnificent Twingo. This beloved car has now transformed into a modern electric city car, embracing a more contemporary style and promoting conscious mobility.
