BMW is once again showcasing their exceptional creativity with the BMW Concept Skytop design study at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. Both the interior and exterior of this concept car boast warm monochromatic colors, seamlessly blending exclusive materials with traditional craftsmanship. Adrian van Hooydonk, the head of BMW Group Design, describes the BMW Concept Skytop as a truly unique and exotic design that pays homage to the rich heritage of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. He emphasizes that this vehicle offers a remarkable combination of driving dynamics and elegance, reminiscent of iconic predecessors such as the BMW Z8 or BMW 503.

The BMW Concept Skytop features a sleek exterior design that evokes a sense of wanderlust. Its precise lines and muscular surfaces guide the eye towards the rear of the vehicle, while discreet winglets integrated into the door shoulders replace traditional door handles. The light-alloy wheels with intricate lamellas add to its distinctive look.

From an aerial view, the sweeping bonnet, iconic BMW shark-nose design with illuminated kidney grille, and retracted rear section stand out. The design elements pay homage to the legendary BMW Z8 roadster, with a pronounced spline extending from the bonnet to an aluminium trim on the tailgate, highlighting the dynamic silhouette.

The headlights of the BMW Concept Skytop feature intricate details that seamlessly blend into the overall design. Custom LED units mounted on milled aluminium carriers were specifically developed for this concept, incorporating cutting-edge technology for automotive headlights with a slim profile. The rear lights, with their flat and defined shape, complement the vehicle’s aesthetic.

Inside, the leather-finished roll-over bar, side fins on the B-pillar, and retractable rear window enhance the two-seater layout. The removable roof parts, also leather-clad, can be conveniently stored in a dedicated compartment in the luggage area.

The color scheme of the BMW Concept Skytop ensures a cohesive transition between the interior and exterior, whether the roof is open or closed. The reddish-brown tone of the roof seamlessly blends into the muted silver with chrome shadow effect of the exterior paint. This intricate color gradient was meticulously crafted by a skilled master painter at the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing.

Notably, the interior surfaces of the BMW Concept Skytop were meticulously crafted using the traditional saddlery techniques employed at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing.

Just like the iconic roadster, this concept car is equipped with the most powerful V8 engine available in the BMW drive train portfolio. This ensures a thrilling and dynamic driving experience, reminiscent of the legendary performance associated with the BMW Z8.
