Even if we haven’t all written down a literal bucket list, we’ve all at least thought about it – the things we’d like to do before we die. Vacations and thrill-seeking experiences are common entries on such lists, but when it comes to choosing where to go, we can get a little paralyzed by choice. We’re here to help you choose, and to make that decision Morocco. Here’s why:

An Introduction to Morocco

Morocco can be found on the north-western tip of the African continent; its northern peninsula forms the lower bounds of the Strait of Gibraltar, while its southern reaches encompass the western Sahara Desert.

For those who can’t pass up a good adventure vacation, Morocco is the perfect place to visit; from national cuisine to desert camel-riding and even catching waves on its Atlantic coastline, there is no place like Morocco for ticking off once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Read on to find out more about the best locations and experiences in Morocco, that can help you plan the trip of your life.

Places to Visit in Morocco

Marrakesh

You haven’t really been to Morocco if you haven’t spent at least a day in Marrakesh. Marrakesh is a city with serious history, as local culture and architecture alike date back to the Berber Empire in the 11th and 12th century. Marrakesh is probably best known for its markets though – a warren of narrow streets and pathways full to the brim with local goods and produce of all shapes and sizes.

Erg Chebbi

Erg Chebbi is one of the Moroccan desert’s larger dune formations, found near the pre-Saharan town of Merzouga. This edifying sea of sand simply must be seen in person to be understood. It is also an intrinsic part of local tradition, where many flock to the dunes during the summer to give themselves a ‘sand bath’, thought to help with joint-related ailments.

Moroccan Experiences

Camel Riding

Camel riding is one of those profound experiences that you absolutely have to try for yourself; there is simply no substitute. Whether simply taking a tour of a local erg or joining a multi-day trek across the Sahara, camel-riding is simply unforgettable as experiences go.

Surfing Killer Point

If you’re in any way interested in surfing, you’ll have heard of Killer Point. For the uninitiated, Killer Point is a world-famous point break on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, near the town of Taghazout. Killer Point is so named for the school of killer whales that frequent the area – and that you could even surf alongside, if you’re lucky!

The Food

Morocco’s unique flavor of North African cuisine is so good it demands to be recognized as an ‘experience’. When you eat in Morocco, you’ll be experiencing rich, well-developed flavors in the form of lamb and chicken tagines, with bold accompaniments in the form of olives and preserved lemon sides. Morocco is also the natural home of couscous, a now widely-popular dish with many variants around the world.
