Parramon + Tahull Arquitectes have embarked on an exciting project to transform a compact apartment in Gracia, a vibrant neighborhood in Barcelona, all while adhering to a tight budget. The design process began with the demolition of interior walls, allowing for a more open and fluid space. Remarkably, the original flooring was preserved, adding character and charm, while the stunning Catalan vaulted ceiling was left exposed, showcasing the apartment’s architectural heritage.

This thoughtful approach has liberated the apartment’s 24 square meters, creating a sense of spaciousness. Custom-made furniture plays a pivotal role in reimagining the layout, ensuring that every inch is utilized effectively. A striking birch plywood wardrobe not only provides storage but also cleverly divides the sleeping area from the living room, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics.

In a clever design twist, the bed is positioned in one corner of the apartment, elevated slightly above the rest of the space. This raised section fosters a cozy and intimate atmosphere in the bedroom, making it a perfect retreat. Meanwhile, custom seating crafted from plywood has been designed to soften the sharp diagonal line of a wall, seamlessly integrating into the overall design with a light and airy touch.

The warm hues of the wood are beautifully echoed in the window frames and shutters, creating a harmonious flow throughout the apartment. In contrast, the kitchen furniture and fixtures are painted white, which amplifies the brightness of the space and enhances the overall sense of openness.

In the bathroom, the stoneware wall tiles add a touch of elegance, complemented by a small storage unit cleverly built into the false wall. This thoughtful addition maximizes storage without compromising on style, ensuring that the bathroom remains functional and visually appealing.

With a minimalistic approach and a focus on enhancing existing materials and shapes, the project successfully creates a harmonious living environment. The carefully curated furnishings distribute various functions throughout the apartment, resulting in an intimate yet airy atmosphere that invites comfort and creativity in every corner.
