The building’s exterior, “chiselled into pleated white stone and metal,” immediately establishes a dialogue with TOTEME‘s refined aesthetic. It rises with a quiet strength, a monolithic form that invites closer inspection. This articulation of texture, the interplay of light and shadow on the pleated surfaces, hints at the sophisticated layering of experiences within.

Stepping inside, one is immediately enveloped in a world where geometric form and monochrome palettes reign. Herzog & de Meuron have skillfully emphasized the existing proportions, creating a sense of spaciousness and clarity. Here, the fusion of Chinese and Swedish cultural influences manifests not as a jarring juxtaposition, but as a harmonious blend.

The store’s centerpiece, a grand staircase, commands attention. This is more than a functional element; it’s a “brand totem,” a sculptural journey that blends the essence of TOTEME with the timeless elegance of a traditional Chinese “Gonshi” garden stone.
