Today marks the inauguration of teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, a significant development in Abu Dhabi‘s Saadiyat Cultural District. This expansive 17,000 square-meter venue, the result of a collaboration between the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), Miral, and the art collective teamLab, is now welcoming visitors to experience a groundbreaking approach to art.
The opening of teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is a key event for the Saadiyat Cultural District, enhancing its already rich cultural offerings that include the Louvre Abu Dhabi. The district’s significance as a cultural destination will grow further with the upcoming additions of the Zayed National Museum, the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.
teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is distinguished by its concept of “Environmental Phenomena,” where artworks are not independent entities but are created by the environment itself. This philosophy leads to dynamic and continuously transforming exhibits, promising visitors unique and unrepeatable experiences.
Among the installations that visitors can now explore are “Levitation Void,” an artwork that examines energy and existence to challenge traditional perceptions of objects, and “Massless Suns and Dark Suns,” an installation that explores the interplay of light and darkness to question the nature of perception.
Further exhibits include “Morphing Continuum,” described as a living universe that evolves through space and time, and “Spontaneous Order in Chaos,” which illustrates the emergence of order from seemingly random interactions. Visitors can also encounter “Massless Amorphous Sculpture,” a large-scale sculpture shaped by the energy of its environment, along with other works such as “Circulating Universe of Water Particles,” “Biocosmos,” “Continuous Trajectories in Flux and Form,” “Wind Form,” and “Flutter of Butterflies,” each contributing to the exhibition’s central theme.
teamLab, the international art collective responsible for this project, has been active since 2001. The collective’s practice is characterized by its interdisciplinary approach, integrating art, science, technology, and the natural world to cultivate new perspectives on the relationship between individuals and their surroundings.
