Bentley’s revered in-house coachbuilder, Mulliner, has unveiled the first completed example of its most exclusive open-top grand tourer: the breathtaking Batur Convertible. This isn’t merely a drop-top version of the acclaimed coupé; it’s a one-off masterpiece, meticulously tailored to its owner’s vision, showcasing the pinnacle of bespoke coachbuilding and setting a new standard for automotive luxury and personalization.

This dramatic aerial perspective reveals Mulliner’s radical ‘one plus one’ interior concept in the Batur Convertible, with the driver’s cockpit in bold Beluga black starkly contrasting the passenger accommodation in serene Linen.

Finished in a shimmering Opalite exterior with dramatic Beluga gloss black and vibrant Mandarin orange highlights, this first Batur Convertible makes an immediate, powerful statement. The design boldly emphasizes the car’s extraordinary performance credentials, driven by Bentley’s most potent W12 powertrain, producing a formidable 740 bhp. A signature Batur racing stripe in gloss black, meticulously bordered by Mandarin pinstripes, flows seamlessly from the unique matrix grille (finished in Beluga with Mandarin accents) over the bonnet, across the ‘airbridge’ cockpit, and along the rear deck, culminating at the iconic Bentley wings badge. This theme continues over the rear tonneau with bespoke embroidery, while the distinctive five-spoke alloy wheels echo the Opalite and Mandarin palette.

The iconic Bentley wings badge sits proudly on the Opalite bonnet, marking the origin of the distinctive gloss Beluga and Mandarin racing stripe unique to this bespoke Batur Convertible.

The true revelation, however, lies within. Mulliner has realized a radical ‘one plus one’ interior concept, transforming the cabin into a visually distinct, driver-focused environment. The driver’s cockpit is enveloped in an intense Beluga black hide and Alcantara capsule, featuring Mulliner’s intricate Batur pattern on seat bolsters and door inserts picked out in Linen and Mandarin contrast stitching. A bold band of Mandarin hide encircles the driver, flowing from the centre console across the instrumentation and beneath the door waistrail, emphasizing the driver-focused nature of this grand tourer.

Bespoke five-spoke alloy wheels meticulously mirror the Batur Convertible’s exterior palette, featuring an Opalite base with dramatic Beluga spokes and vibrant Mandarin orange highlights.

In striking contrast, the passenger accommodation is a haven of Linen hide and Alcantara, accented with Mandarin detailing. The Batur pattern here appears on a Linen background. This dramatic colour split extends even to the interior luggage area behind the seats and meticulously coordinated details like the bespoke key cases and seat belts.

The flowing lines of the Batur Convertible showcase its coachbuilt elegance, highlighted by the uninterrupted Batur racing stripe flowing over the rear deck to the Bentley badge and bespoke Tonneau cover embroidery.

The specification reveals an obsessive passion for detail. The fascia and door waistrails feature a subtle satin black engine spin finish, complemented by gloss Beluga veneer on the centre console. Instrument dial bezels are Beluga, faces in light titanium. Solid titanium machined features abound – from the gearshift paddles and steering wheel controls to the iconic organ stop air vents and the bullseye vent surrounds. The steering wheel itself combines Beluga, Linen, and Mandarin cross-stitching, with a machined titanium top dead centre marker. Illuminated sill treadplates proudly display the Batur nameplate.

Mulliner’s handcrafted sports seats define the ‘one plus one’ interior, with the driver’s seat finished in Beluga hide and the passenger seat in Linen, both featuring the unique Batur pattern.

Opening the rear reveals a bespoke two-piece luggage set, one in Beluga for the driver, one in Linen for the passenger – the perfect complement to this ultimate open-air grand tourer. This first customer car follows the dynamic debut of the engineering development car, Batur Convertible Car Zero, at Goodwood Festival of Speed. Car Zero, featuring a bespoke Vermilion Gloss over Vermillion Satin duo-tone, will be showcased for admirers at the prestigious Monterey Car Week.

As the third member of Mulliner’s Coachbuilt family, following the Bacalar and Batur coupé, the strictly limited Batur Convertible represents the zenith of Bentley ownership. Each example is co-created by Mulliner’s in-house design team with its client, using a sophisticated visualiser to customize every surface and colour. Retaining the thunderous hand-assembled 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12 engine, the Batur Convertible isn’t just a car; it’s a rolling testament to individual expression and the unparalleled craftsmanship of the world’s oldest coachbuilder. Like this stunning Opalite example, each subsequent Batur Convertible will be utterly unique – a true one-off for the discerning collector.
