Citroën has once again thrown down the gauntlet with the unveiling of the Citroën ELO concept, a fascinating laboratory of ideas that boldly reinterprets the brand’s long-standing history of innovation in MPVs and leisure activity vehicles. Following the Citroën Oli concept from 2022, ELO (standing for rEst, wOrk, pLay) steps forward as a manifesto for future mobility, perfectly embodying the brand’s commitment to bold design, well-being, and making life easier. In an era where lifestyles are rapidly changing, ELO offers a sophisticated, yet entirely fun, solution to the demands of modern, interconnected living. This is more than just a car; it’s a transportation concept designed to give back useful time.
The core genius of the ELO lies in its striking contradiction: a compact exterior—just 4.10 m long, similar to the e¨-C3—concealing a surprisingly generous and ultra-modular interior. This exceptional compactness/interior volume ratio is achieved by building the ELO on a dedicated, 100% electric platform, which positions the motor on the rear axle to free up significant cabin space. This architecture allows ELO to be perfectly at home in congested urban areas but also agile enough for impromptu getaways, aligning perfectly with the shift towards responsible mobility and energy transition.

Inside, the ELO is a true “tiny house” on wheels, a genuine living space that adapts to the user’s life rather than the other way around. The ingenious ultra-modularity is immediately apparent with a unique, centrally positioned driver’s seat that offers a 180° windscreen view and can rotate 360° for conversation or work. Furthermore, the ELO comfortably seats four people, but can deploy two additional seats from beneath the second row to carry a total of six, all without compromising boot space. The flat floor and opposing side doors (with no center pillar) create a 1.92 m wide opening, ensuring easy access and movement within the cabin, redefining on-board use and comfort.

The Citroën ELO embraces the mantra of REST, PLAY, WORK, offering an environment for every phase of an active day. For rest, the space transforms into a sleeping area for two using high-rigidity inflatable Dropstitch mattressesdeveloped in collaboration with Decathlon, even featuring a retractable projection screen for a mobile home cinema experience under the stars. For play, the vehicle acts as a versatile base camp for outdoor activities; its removable rear seats can be used as outdoor chairs, and V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) technology allows users to power external devices like an electric BBQ or a speaker, making it the perfect leisure activity vehicle. When it’s time to work, the rotating driver’s seat becomes a comfortable mobile office with a dedicated pull-out table for a laptop, integrated storage, and instrumentation that seamlessly adapts to display video conferences.

This holistic vision of mobility was brought to life through key partnerships. The collaboration with Decathlon infused the design with expertise in sports and outdoor activities, resulting in clever storage and the innovative, high-rigidity mattresses. Meanwhile, Goodyear contributed to the responsible design with the Eagle Xplore concept tires. These smart tires, powered by Goodyear SightLine technology, provide real-time data on pressure and wear and feature a robust tread designed for both daily use and occasional off-road escapes, further underscoring the ELO’s adventurous and versatile spirit.

A vibrant orange hue enhances the ELO’s endearing personality, shifting colour with the light to embody its joyful and convivial spirit. This focus on function and emotion is evident everywhere, from the flat glass surfaces (a nod to the Oli concept) to the unique lighting signatures and the expanded polypropylene material used on the bumpers and flat wing surfaces—a lightweight, fully recyclable material made from 30% recycled content. By prioritising sustainable materials and clever simplification to reduce the number of parts and overall mass, the Citroën ELO stands as a bold, accessible, and truly responsible product, pointing the way toward a future where vehicles enhance, rather than dictate, modern life.
