Taiwanese practice A Cat Thing has realized its first furniture collection for cats and their owners. The Room Collection is a system of small-sized cardboard boxes that can be stacked to form tiny indoor architectures. The shapes are designed to facilitate cats’ behavior: they can jump, hide, rest and crawl easily.

Inspired by prefab buildings and Lego, the collection is made of four modules (room, living-room, balcony, ramp) that are easily connected through the basic principles of origami. All the materials used are recyclable and non-toxic and feature a very high payload, allowing kittens as well as giant cats to run and jump on them.

Circular cutouts in the rooms and a triangular opening in the balcony allow the cats to move freely in and out of the boxes or simply poke their heads out. And if the felines need a change, reassembling the rooms into a new tower is a snap. What’s more, the simple design and neutral color palette ensure that A Cat Thing would look great in just about any space.

The firm was founded in 2016 by a young architect couple considering they wanted to build a special house for their cats. Together with their cats, Chacha and Lily, they have conducted a series of research on cat-related product design. Their goal is to make a creative, stylish, and harmonious design that can fit in a modern living environment.
