ActiWait – A Smart Traffic Light That Lets You Play Pong with Strangers

Amelie Künzler and Sandro Engel, two interactive design students at HAWK University, have finally installed their smart traffic light button, which was unveiled in 2012 with the name of StreetPong –  that will allow strangers to play pong with one another while they wait to cross the street. After two years of waiting, the device rebranded as the ActiWait have been designed and approved for use by the city of Hildesheim, Germany where they were installed two weeks ago.

Installed at a pedestrian traffic light with long red phases, it offers pedestrians the possibility to convert boring waiting times into positive experiences. Through a touch screen which is installed in the upper shell of the button, people can interact with each other across the street. ActiWait is currently seeking funding through an Indiegogo campaign to support its development and transform waiting time to an awesome experience – all over the world!
