Taiwanese studio Wei Yi International Design Associates has recently completed the ‘auditorium’ apartment in Taipei for a family of musicians. Knowing that every family member learns different instruments, the designer attempts to transform sound, an invisible and intangible element, into the visible figures and develop into the space of 200 square meters.
The designer adopts the concepts of the blue tooth speaker by creating a box-shaped structure in the space which also provides a practice area for the family. This independent block has become the biggest feature in the space. The box also connects the two main area, the living space and the working space, by positioned in the point of the L-shaped open space.
The opening and inclination of the geometric shapes used in the space are closely related to the concrete of the sound field. In the box, there are five sets of sheet-shaped mobile structures. The broad opening structures create the flexible usage of various musical instruments. It could also be disassembled at any time to provide the variety to the space. The white appearance of the box makes it comfortable in this pure and limpid space composed mainly of white color. Moreover, the special particle coating on the surface, except its eco characteristics, adds the warm and handmade tone with its unique textures. With the advantages of large window, the sunlight fades in and creates the pure and simple space in a warm and simple and rustic atmosphere. It makes the overall design in an elegant and noble style while keeping the sense of approachable life.
The semi-open dark bookshelf in the dark sequence behind the box gives a sense of hierarchy to the space and creates a quiet effect. Three oil portraits of children in the Q version on the wall record the growth of children with alternative art. Next to them is a long large working desk which could be used as the interaction space for both adults and children. The dark blue magnetic blackboard on the wall extends the interesting conversations in daily life.
As the main rest area, the grid elements are used in the master room to define the transitions of public and private areas. The designer attempts to deliver the tranquility to the space by applying the black tone. Walking through the dressing room, the basic style of the master bathroom is mainly built by white terrazzo and white malay paint, providing the residents with a bright, light and comfortable space for bathing and relaxing.
The essence of space reflects what the resident desires. The field of listening is no longer a one-way description of the expression of the music, but becoming the place where the designer composes for the audiences to listen to the soul through the elements in the space.
