Jarim Koo Designs A Volkswagen-inspired Coffee Machine

Jarim Koo - Barista Beetle Coffee Machine

The ‘Barista Beetle’ is a concept coffee machine conceived by South Korea designer Jarim Koo that pays tribute to Volkswagen’s lasting influence on the wider field of product design.

Its body-shape was designed in a formal language by reinterpreting the VW Beetle’s coupe-style loop line, the frameless door, and the alloy wheel that followed the curved slope of the side.

The top part of the sliding wing cover was designed with a metaphorical meaning to inform the beginning of the ceremony to drink coffee, and it was designed to be able to slide in both directions. Moving the sliding cover to the right, the user can insert a coffee capsule. By moving the sliding cover to the left, you can easily fill the water in the built-in water tank.

The ‘Barista Beetle’ is designed to hide as much complexity as possible, particularly the capsule container and the water container, which are positioned on the rear side. Its flexible design enables the body to be easily rotated, so users can access the rear-positioned elements.

Users can choose from four different cup sizes: ristretto, espresso, lungo and americano. The coffee maker is also equipped with a function to extract hot water separately (at a range of different temperatures), allows users to extract to enjoy a completely customized coffee.

The concept comes in three vibrant and dynamic colors, injecting life into any modern interior.
