Designed by Canadian firm IVYSTUDIO – known before as OBIEKT – the new Crisp barbershop in Montreal was born from the owner’s strong will to open a barbershop unlike all others.

In the emerging neighborhood of Pointe Saint-Charles, his ambitions were to create a unique experience in a minimalistic environment that put the spotlight on the barbers (and their stations), without compromising on the spaces functionality.

The symmetrical configuration of the space allows all focus to be kept on its central element: the marble counter. This dark green monolithic block acts as a central pillar to the barbers as well as the clients. Behind it, a large white textured wall separates the washing station and storage area from the shop’s entrance, all the while displaying the company’s name for entering customers.

The barber stations are designed to be light and easily transportable, to allow a certain level of flexibility to the area during social events. In the back, the series of small round white shelves almost disappear, displaying a variation of selected locally-made products for sale.

Stripped from its original ceramic, the space reveals its rough concrete slab found underneath. To contrast with the predominantly mineral material pallet, the barber stations as well as the benches are custom made using natural white oak. Aside from that, the only colors added to the space are the dark green natural tones of the marble and numerous plants, as well as a delicate touch of mint in the hanging light fixtures.
