Google Cardboard VR Headset

In order to provide to everyone a virtual reality experience in a simple, fun and inexpensive way, Google has conceived a DIY Cardboard VR Headset. To built your own Google Cardboard VR Headset you need a corrugated cardboard sheet, preferably E Flute, and a pair of lenses with a 40mm focal distance to keep your smartphone’s screen in focus. The kit also requires magnets, velcro, a rubber band, and an NFC tag, if you want to tap your device to the VR headset to launch the app.

“Virtual reality has made exciting progress over the past several years. However, developing for VR still requires expensive, specialized hardware,” Google said on the project’s page. “Thinking about how to make VR accessible to more people, a group of VR enthusiasts at Google experimented with using a smartphone to drive VR experiences.”

More information about the project, downloadable files and the Cardboard App are available on the official project’s page.
