Google has launched a comprehensive new lineup of Nest smart home security devices, headlined by a next-generation indoor camera, outdoor camera, and doorbell. Announced at the company’s Google Home event, the products represent a significant hardware and software leap, designed from the ground up to leverage the deep contextual understanding of the Gemini AI models. This strategic move firmly positions Google to compete in the increasingly intelligent and competitive smart home market.

The Nest Cam Indoor makes a bold design statement in its vibrant Berry finish, offering a 152-degree field of view and sharp 2K HDR video.

The new hardware establishes a strong foundation with significant upgrades. The Nest Cam Indoor is priced at $99.99, while the Nest Cam Outdoor comes in at $149.99. Both cameras, along with the $179.99 Nest Doorbell, feature 2K HDR video, the highest resolution Google has ever shipped, providing a noticeably sharper image. They also boast a dramatically wider field of view—152 degrees for the cameras and 166 degrees for the doorbell—ensuring greater coverage of your property. A new sensor and wider aperture also contribute to a 120% improvement in low-light performance, allowing the cameras to stay in full-color mode longer and capture clearer details in challenging lighting conditions.

Where Google truly aims to differentiate is through the integration of its powerful Gemini AI assistant. The technology moves beyond simple object detection to what Google calls “semantic scene understanding.” This means your notifications become intelligently contextual. Instead of a generic “motion detected” alert, you might receive a notification that says, “Dog jumps out of playpen,” accompanied by a zoomed-in video clip of the event. Gemini can interpret that a FedEx driver is placing a package on your porch and walking away, providing a narrative understanding of your home’s activity.

The latest Nest Doorbell features a 166-degree field of view and a 1:1 aspect ratio to capture everything from head to toe on the porch.

This intelligent awareness extends to a new feature called the “Home Brief.” Accessible via the Google Home app, it provides a concise summary of the past 24 hours of activity you missed. It can tell you which packages were delivered, what time the kids got home, or if a specific visitor stopped by. You can even ask Gemini to tailor the brief, requesting to only hear about the pets or to make the summary longer or shorter. This level of personalized, AI-driven insight is a core part of the Google Home Premium subscription, formerly known as Nest Aware.

The AI-powered automation capabilities are equally transformative. Users can now use natural language to set up complex routines. By simply telling Gemini you “want to feel safer at home,” the AI can suggest and configure a routine that involves locking doors, closing smart blinds, and even creating a simulated presence by turning lights on and off while you’re away. This dramatically lowers the barrier to creating a truly responsive and automated smart home environment, making advanced features accessible to everyone.

The weatherproof Nest Cam Outdoor is designed for long-term UV protection, featuring enhanced low-light performance for full-color video at dusk.

Sustainability and design have not been overlooked. The cameras come in plastic-free packaging and new colors: Snow, Hazel, and Berry for the indoor camera; Snow and Hazel for the weatherproof outdoor model. The Nest Doorbell is available in Snow, Hazel, and Linen. For security, Google emphasizes that video footage is encrypted, never used for ad targeting, and is protected by two-step verification. The new devices are available now in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Japan, and across Europe. All functionality is now seamlessly integrated into the Google Home app, creating a unified hub for the modern, intelligent home.
