Even after the pandemic, many professionals are continuing with the work from home (WFH) lifestyle to avail of its many benefits, higher productivity levels being only one of them. If this is something you would like to do, begin searching around for the most flexible jobs that you can do from home. And, while you’re at it, set up a pleasant home office where you can get the maximum work done. Here are some great ideas to get you started.

Choose the Right Room

The verandah or patio could serve as a workspace that has lots of lighting and is an interesting backdrop for Zoom calls. You could also use one-half of the kitchen table. If your family members have different working hours, consider sharing your office. Getting a portable laptop table is also a smart move. You’ll have the flexibility to move around to accommodate other people. Or, just for a change of scenery to spur your creativity. On the subject of creativity, how about making your own using deep pour epoxy for river tables. This material is highly versatile and using it to build the table results in a super-resilient surface that can withstand the maximum usage.

Organize Appropriate Ergonomic Furniture

Spending long hours sitting can strain your lower back muscles. Many WFH professionals talk about strained neck muscles, headaches, and aching eyes. Accept that your home is likely to be an office for an extended time. You may want to invest in the right furniture. Or, make the necessary adjustments for a productive home office.

Getting an office chair would be ideal so that you get adequate lumbar support. Or, purchase a specially-designed pillow or roll for back support. The height of your chair should be just right to let your feet rest flat on the floor. If it’s too high, placing a box or crate under your feet adds to the comfort levels. Remember to keep your back straight and avoid hunching. Bad posture can lead to several musculoskeletal issues down the line.

Invest in Office Equipment

You’re going to need equipment like a computer monitor, keyboards, printers, or multiple screens. Depending on the kind of work you do, external hard drives could also make your list. Considering that the monitor should be at eye level, get a laptop stand with a separate keyboard. Make sure that the screen is at least 25 inches from your eyes and adjust the brightness to match the lighting in the room. Setting up a screen filter is another essential for a productive home office since it reduces the glare and you can work for long hours without eye strain.

Get Creative with Storage Space for Files and Papers

Storing files or documents, digital or paper requires space. At the same time, you’ll want to place the supplies where you can reach them quickly. Use horizontal and vertical square footage efficiently for maximum functionality. Set up hanging shelves on the walls that can take the files you don’t need right away. A basket or a drawer is ideal for placing papers. Or, consider using a bar cart or a trolley on wheels that you can drag out of the way at the end of the workday.

Adequate Lighting is Critical

Possibly the most critical feature of a productive home office is lighting. If you can set up the desk close to a window for natural sunshine, that would be ideal. But, if that’s not possible, install artificial lights that brighten your spaces and make it easy to work. Ensure that the light does not reflect off the computer screen or shine directly on it. Diffused fixtures are preferable so that visibility during video calls is not hampered.

A productive home office environment will help you deliver assignments on schedule and keep up with deadlines. Create flexible spaces that can be used as a pleasant home office by using these ideas.
