Stand on a 16.5-square-meter plot in a residential neighborhood in Ōmihachiman, Japan, Mi-Chan’s Sweets Factory is a 12-year old’s dream pastry store. The client’s daughter found her talent in baking pastries and ALTS Design Office conceived the shop specifically to fulfill her dream of offering people delicious sweets.
She started learning pastries by herself when she was 10, training through mobile catering. The goal of this project is to make a sweets factory that welcomes everyone while reducing construction costs.
The small building is located at the end of a road, with a stream running behind it. the architects attempted to keep the path to the stream and to make the design of the store spacious and translucent. Half of the building is made of glass that allows sunlight to filter in and make the space feel airy, while keeping the other half private.
The tiny store houses a small pastry display, the cashier, a bar top to eat the sweets, and a fully equipped kitchen. A seamless connection of interior and exterior creates a vibrant, inviting atmosphere.
