Nike’s Workplace Design + Connectivity team in partnership with Studios Architecture have recently completed the Nike’s new Headquarters in New York. The expansive 6-floor space features freestyle workspace for 180 employees; a 4,000-sq. ft. basketball court; 2 outdoor terraces; a swoosh garden made from succulents; and a library curated by Nike NY & Phaidon.

For decades, Nike has forged a strong bond with New York City. Across the five boroughs’ basketball courts, relationships forged with high school teams have championed “the city game.” Run clubs emanate from the Nike Running Flatiron store and from Nike Town on 57th Street. Last year, Nike partnered with the New York City Dept. of Parks and Recreation to embellish the Stanton Street Courts with painting by the artist, KAWS.

Now, as part of the company’s key city strategy within its new consumer direct offense, Nike is opening a stunning new New York HQ. Housing an integrated design studio, and covering nearly 150,000 square feet across six floors at 855 Avenue of the Americas, Nike NYHQ represents part of a global initiative to add resources in influential sport and style hubs.

The interior of Nike NYHQ has been designed to facilitate creativity and collaboration through open-plan, freestyle work spaces. Meeting areas include a VW van — a tribute to the original van from which Bill Bowerman and Jeff Johnson would distribute Nike shoes at track meets in the company’s early days. Several conference rooms feature custom ceiling tiles, designed by Miniwiz, which are also made from recycled materials. A roof terrace (complete with plants in the shape of the Nike swoosh), allows for open-air meetings and relaxation, and food is served from a food truck housed in the building.

Nike NYHQ also has a 4,000-square-foot indoor basketball court, complete with seating for 400. The space will host local leagues, high school teams and community partners, and is also available for Nike staff.
