Range Rover has entered the grand-touring segment claiming a capability no conventional GT offers. The Range Rover GT, confirmed today as the marque’s fifth model line, will be the brand’s first all-electric Range Rover, built on the new EMA platform — yet its production body is still hidden under camouflage during final on-road testing. Long-distance refinement paired with all-terrain capability marks an unusual combination for a segment that typically excludes one for the other.

A single-screen dashboard replaces the traditional instrument cluster inside the GT’s cabin, paired with a separate driver display occupying the space where that cluster used to sit. A concealed air vent runs the full width of the cabin, forming a single horizontal line — a graphic device Range Rover has used across the family before and is carrying into its first electric model. A woven textile wraps the dashboard in one continuous piece, doubling as a surface that conceals the cabin’s speakers within its own form.

Manufactured in Halewood, UK, the GT joins the brand’s existing ICE and hybrid Range Rover models on the same production site. A hybrid electric version is planned to follow later in the model’s lifecycle, after the initial battery-electric launch.

Redefining the grand-touring segment is the ambition behind the GT, according to Range Rover — combining long-distance refinement with capability the brand says no conventional GT can match. “The result is the most car-like, yet unmistakably capable, Range Rover ever created,” said Martin Limpert, Managing Director of Range Rover, in a statement.

Electrified performance and all-terrain capability sit at the center of that positioning rather than as a trade-off between the two. “…effortless EV performance, first-class long-haul refinement and all-terrain capability is pure Range Rover,”Limpert said, adding that the interior previews the brand’s direction for a modern grand tourer.

The camouflage wrap covering prototype vehicles was designed in-house, using the topographic contours of the landscape around Gaydon — home to Range Rover’s creative and engineering teams — as the basis for a flowing gold pattern across the body. A digital aesthetic runs through that same pattern, drawing on the technology built into the car itself and reinforcing the GT’s position as Range Rover’s most technologically sophisticated model to date.

Range Rover GT is due to share more details later this year — meaning the version currently circulating on public roads, gold pattern and all, is still the only shape most people will get to see it in for a while.
