Dutch firm UNStudio has revealed the plans for the Seoul Twin Eye spokeless Ferris wheel in Seoul. The design features a unique intersecting double-ring structure situated on top of a cultural complex. This impressive Ferris wheel, standing at a height of 180 meters, is a collaborative effort between UNStudio, Arup, and Heerim Architects. Standing atop a 40-meter-high cultural complex, the wheel will have a diameter of 180 meters. This complex will not only serve as a foundation for the Seoul Twin Eye but also house various amenities such as exhibition spaces, a performance hall, and retail and food outlets. As a result, visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a vibrant cultural environment while enjoying breathtaking views from the wheel, which will reach a height of 220 meters, making it the tallest spokeless Ferris wheel in the world. This height ensures that visitors will be treated to unparalleled panoramic views of the beautiful city of Seoul.

The design of the Seoul Twin Eye is a testament to the UNStudio team’s commitment to unity and innovation. Inspired by the Honcheonsigye, an astronomical clock symbolizing the movement of celestial objects through time, the wheel embodies Korea’s ambition for progress and its appreciation for both technological advancements and aesthetic beauty.

The double-ring structure of the wheel not only provides stability but also creates a visually striking and unique aesthetic. To ensure the structural integrity of the design, UNStudio collaborated with Arup, who meticulously reviewed the proposed structure’s resistance to earthquakes and wind.

Overall, the Seoul Twin Eye promises to be a remarkable addition to the city’s skyline, offering an unforgettable experience for visitors and showcasing Seoul’s commitment to pushing boundaries in architecture and design.
