Prolific studio Nendo presents a collection of shelves and tables designed for Italian furniture brand Glas Italia that express a “slide” of position by focusing on the technology that bonds glass to glass. Each item is made of glass, and one black sheet of glass is bonded in a way that it has slid from its original position. The shelves are particularly challenging to develop, since the black glass that is sticking out has to be attached to a transparent glass using an extremely small area of the cross-section. The tables look as though the surface on top of the black box has been opened in a slightly slid position. However since a transparent glass has been placed there, things can be placed on the table top. The inside of the box was evenly painted white to prevent the inside from becoming dark, concurrently creating a contrast to the exterior of the box.
This project will be exhibited at nendo’s solo exhibition “nendo works 2014-2015” at Museo della Permanente this month during the 2015 Milan Design Week.
