Chinese bag brand Songmont, celebrated for its fusion of Eastern philosophy and timeless aesthetics, has transitioned from digital dominance into the physical realm with a series of experiential retail stores designed by ARCHSTUDIO. Strategically located across Shanghai, Shenzhen, Nanjing, and Chengdu—in high-profile venues like Shanghai’s Plaza 66 and Chengdu IFS—these spaces reject generic chain-store formulas. Instead, they offer unique, regionally sensitive interpretations of the brand’s core identity: the poetic Chinese name “山下有松” (Shān xià yǒu sōng), meaning “distant sky, towering mountains with pines underneath.”

ARCHSTUDIO’s design strategy embraced adaptability. Facing diverse conditions—from street-facing facades to irregular mall footprints, and including both pop-up stores and permanent installations—the studio avoided replication. Each outlet reflects Songmont’s DNA while responding to its specific urban and cultural context. The “mountain” and “pine” motifs became transformative spatial metaphors. Research into natural landscapes—wind-sculpted canyons, coastal rock formations, classical gardens, and bamboo forests—informed organic, site-specific interiors that harmonize with local character while optimizing product display efficiency.

As a women’s bag brand, evoking softness and warmth was essential. ARCHSTUDIO reimagined rugged natural elements through a feminine lens, eliminating any harshness. The resulting spaces feel inviting and luminous, fostering discovery and relaxation. This user-centric approach crafts a joyful shopping experience distinct from online interactions—building tangible brand-customer connections.

Facing tight retail timelines, ARCHSTUDIO pioneered a prefabrication-driven construction system. Using CNC-engineered laminated wood and lightweight FRP (fiber-reinforced plastic), components were factory-produced after meticulous 3D modelling and site verification. This ensured precision, reduced on-site waste, and enabled rapid assembly—proving that customized design can align with scalable retail rollouts. The method balanced bespoke artistry with the demands of launching multiple locations.

In an era dominated by e-commerce, Songmont’s physical stores act as strategic brand sanctuaries. These spaces, ranging from 60 to 300 square meters, offer immediacy and emotional resonance that digital channels cannot replicate. Through immersive experiences and tactile materiality, ARCHSTUDIO has crafted environments that deepen consumer trust and solidify brand loyalty—transforming retail into a conduit for cultural storytelling.
