German practice Ippolito Fleitz Group (IFG) has designed an extraordinary restaurant in Chaohu, China, that immerses visitors in the captivating waterscape surrounding it. Inspired by the famous Bantang hot springs, a popular destination for tourists and wellness seekers, the interior design captures the tranquil beauty of its setting.
The restaurant utilizes the mineral-rich water from these renowned springs not only in its culinary offerings but also as drinking water, with IFG aiming to integrate this concept throughout the entire space.
The design philosophy focuses on embracing local culture and transforming it into an engaging spatial experience. The spacious, light-filled area features fluid forms that reflect the movement of water, while the gently curved architecture harmoniously blends with the natural landscape.
“We carry the organic curves of the exterior into the interior, making the building appear as if it naturally belongs to the terrain,” explains IFG. “Occasionally, we introduce cavernous alcoves that evoke the essence of a mountain’s interior and the origin of the spring water.”
As guests enter the restaurant from the upper level, they are guided down a sweeping staircase, leading to a lounge with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. A harmonious mix of earthy tones flows through the space, elegantly defining walkways and seating areas.
The restaurant is enveloped in a vibrant, lush green that cascades across the interior like a thriving jungle canopy. Through thoughtful motifs and material choices, the restaurant transforms into an organic experiential haven where the calming wellness philosophy of hot spring bathing seamlessly merges with the joy of dining.
