Hong Kong-based firm Oyster adds a new presence in the expanding craft beer scene of Shenzhen with the TAPS Brewery and Restaurant. Conceived as a beer cave, the design challenge here was an early decision to remove the barrier between the brew area and customers, exposing them as much as possible to the brewing process while maintaining hygiene and function as a bar and restaurant. The fermentation equipment dominates the visual identity, while the opaque legalities and DIY nature of brewing beer in China provided subtext for the design. With over 20 beers on TAP, cold brew coffees and sodas brewed onsite, TAPS is quickly establishing itself as an authority on brewing in China.
