Design studio WANNA has unveiled the Cozy Bunker, a unique creation that combines the unlikely concepts of well-being and survival. This sheltered fortification, captured beautifully by architectural photographer Javier de Paz García, taps into the growing fascination with bunkers and their construction, as people prepare for the possibility of a global collapse. WANNA, in response to this, pondered over the role of interior design in emergency living spaces. The result? A reimagined subterranean refuge that serves as a sanctuary for disconnecting, drawing inspiration from the world of brutalist architecture.
The Cozy Bunker challenges traditional bunker design by merging two seemingly contradictory ideas: comfort and survival. This project sparks a dialogue between opposing forces. On one hand, the sturdy construction of the access corridor exudes a sense of security and inaccessibility with its rugged appearance.
On the other hand, the interior of the shelter embraces minimalism and a warm color palette, creating an atmosphere of relaxation and hope. It offers a pleasant experience that allows individuals to momentarily detach from the chaos outside.
Constructed entirely using high-pressure laminates from Formica, metallic laminates from Homapal, and innovative surfaces from FENIX, this project showcases the incredible versatility of these materials. They not only offer endless possibilities in terms of design, geometries, and volumes, but also boast a wide range of colors and finishes.
WANNA’s design approach for the Cozy Bunker revolves around principles such as playing with heights, utilizing the four and a half meters of space, ensuring structural solidity, incorporating indirect lighting, and exploring volumetrics. This thoughtful consideration of various elements culminates in a truly remarkable and captivating living space. Cozy Bunker is on show at the 59th edition of Casa Decor in Madrid.
