Nestled within the historic Paris‘ Saint-Germain district, the Tonnemani Apartment exemplifies the transformative power of architectural intervention. Once a sculptor’s atelier, this 110 m² dwelling has been reimagined by Mersi architects, who have masterfully woven together the building’s artistic heritage with a contemporary vision of living.
The architects at Mersi approached the project with a keen understanding of the space’s inherent qualities. The former studio, while rich in character, was burdened by a lack of natural light. To address this, the traditional Parisian canopy was replaced with an innovative operable glass roof, allowing sunlight to cascade into the reception area. This central space, anchored by a multifunctional island incorporating the kitchen and bench, becomes a beacon of light, further amplified by a mirrored dining table. The ability to open the roof blurs the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, offering residents the unique experience of dining and entertaining under the Parisian sky.
Mersi’s intervention extended beyond the introduction of light. The apartment underwent a comprehensive overhauling, optimizing the flow of space and integrating bespoke fittings that exemplify meticulous craftsmanship. Concealed technology, such as a hidden television and integrated bar, maintains a sense of visual serenity while catering to modern living requirements. In the private quarters, rounded television units seamlessly transition into benches, and alabaster lighting casts a warm glow over the master suite’s vanity, imbuing the space with an air of refined elegance.

A cloud-like patina graces the kitchen walls, while a panoramic jute fabric wall-covering depicting the Viñales Valley introduces a captivating landscape into the living area.
