Seeking to create ultimate eco-conscious work bag, Boita Bag co. has launched on Kickstarter its vegan-friendly backpack made from 15 recycled plastic bottle. A good work bag is an indispensable part of daily life but it’s often hard to tell what it’s made of or how it was produced. Exploitative factories with low pay and poor working conditions driven by fast fashion generates more greenhouse emissions than international flights and shipping combined, adding social insult to environmental injury. Founded only 18 months ago by Adam Boita and co-founder Scarlett Leung, BoitaBag Co. is trying to change this.
Every bag is waterproof made from vegan-friendly leather; which has over half the environmental impact versus animal leather. The linings, zips and thread are made using RPET fabric from 15 recycled plastic bottles and padding from BLOOM, the world’s first plant-based performance driven foam made from algae biomass.
Functionality wise there are double padded sections for laptop & tablet, dedicated pockets for phones, pens, cables, a snappable keyring holder and a quick access pocket. It complies with all carry-on standards and stores passport and valuables safe via two security pockets. An organiser cube for a gym kit or overnight change of clothes fits neatly inside. Metal hardware, YKK zips and military grade stress tests – the equivalent of picking up and taking off your bag 40,0000 times ensuring the bags are built to last and perform.
“We built the bag from the ground up so not only did we choose the right materials we also ensured a transparent supply chain and a factory SA8000 certification ensuring we’re at the forefront of ethical manufacturing standards,’ says Adam Boita.
Scarlett Leung adds, “we know people want to buy eco-conscious brands they just don’t want to sacrifice style, function or durability. Our bags fulfil that human need to do your bit for the environment but still look good doing it.”
Boita Bag Co. is available for purchase on Kickstarter with an early bird price of $219USD.
