BOOKNITURE Concrete Gray Edition

BOOKNITURE

Hong Kong-based designer Mike Mak has conceived an extremely compact furniture that combines advanced Origami Structure with traditional craft of book-binding. Based in one of the most densely populated city, Mike Mak developed BOOKNITURE as a great portable furniture that is perfect for our contemporary and compact living styles. Thanks to its structure, BOOKNITURE can be easily stored away when not in use amongst other books on a bookshelf.

A few years ago attending a furniture fair, Mike Mak was given a honeycomb board sample and was amazed by the strength and load capacity of this structure. This structure is widely used in the furniture industry composite boards for shelves and tables. He took this sample back as a decor on bookcase.

Like everyone, Mike love having friends at his place, but have never had enough seats for his guests and always end up just sitting on the floor. he wonder is there a kind of seat that doesn’t take up any floor space when I don’t need it. Is that even possible? One day however, the empty space on Mike’s bookcase with honeycomb sample initiate the spark of a new idea: BOOKNITURE!

The Pat. Pending Origami Structure is made of composite heavy duty custom made paper panels, weighing only 1.2kg. BOOKNITURE is available for purchase here at $86 USD.
