Italian practice Nomade Architettura e Interior Design has recently refurbished this apartment set within an elegant and well designed 1930’s complex in a beautiful residential area in Milan.
The project was focused on the specific needs and requirements of the clients, a wonderful family made of 6 people (father, mother and 4 kids from 0 to 7 years old) international globetrotters who needed an apartment in Milan for their occasional visits in the Italian business capital.
The requirement from the beginning was to have a house that felt like home, with a mix of English elegance and Italian design. The intention was to open up the space, visually connecting the rooms by creating a game of sights that could whisper but not reveal the interiors.
The entrance, conceived as an elegant and precious white treasure chest, opens up to the living room, on one side, the kitchen on the other and finally to the night area.
The living room and Kitchen are visually connected and enriched by two full height custom-made glazed doors. These are thought to become discrete decorating panels while opened, or elegant doors when closed.
The living room is fully embraced by the natural light that comes from the windows facing the park in front of the house. The atmosphere is elegant and relaxing, an important role is played by the lights that become sculptures on the ceiling. The Tv is hidden behind a painting that moves up or down when needed.
The kitchen is fully designed and custom made, the central island is a block of Calacatta Marble, the chandeliers once again give an interesting character to the space, by creating a twist between classic and design.
A long corridor leads to the private area of the house. The corridor keeps the character of a sophisticated chest, carved in white moldings that become wardrobe on one side and doors on the other. The corridor terminates with an unexpected wallpaper wall that contains a secret petineuse.
The girls’ bedroom is a precious gem, a sort of dollhouse for the baby girls and their toys. A Romantic bow window is enriched by a comfortable sofa, where little teapots and cups become lights. The atmosphere is surreally romantic, the memory is easily taken to the tale of Peter Pan, like if a flying kid may enter from the window any moment. The kids’ bedroom is simple and playful.
The main bedroom is sophisticated and enriched by a custom-made fabric wardrobe that occupies one side of the bedroom. Special attention was given to the design of the bathrooms.
The guest bathroom is decorated with dark grey resin and Calcatta Vagli marble in the full height shower and sink. The contrast between the dark color and the golden veins of the marble creates an unexpected and pleasant atmosphere. The main bathroom, connected to the bedroom, is luminous and elegant, the white Calacatta marble illuminates the space, a touch of romance permeates the space. The last bathroom is geometric and characterized by a very strong design. A pattern of white and black marble decorates the space in a unique way.
