How To Install Your Sink in 6 Steps

How To Install Your Sink in 6 Steps

1. Prepare the installation

Make sure the drainage and water supply preparation is properly located at the installation site. It should be at a height of 40 to 60 cm. From the kitchen floor to the drainage outlet on the wall to achieve a proper slope from the sink.

How do you know if this is the case? Very easy:

– Is it in the place where you want to install your sink?

– Is the installation in a reverse triangle? In other words, is the drainage pipe under the water supply?

If the answer to the first question was no, you should consult a Plumber, as you may need to make changes to the pipes behind the wall.

On the other hand, if the reverse triangle installation is not found, you have two options:

Purchase a Flexible Trap that allows you to correct the offset (explained in more detail in step 4).

*In this installation the drain pipe was lowered to make a reverse triangle to allow for installation. If you haven’t selected yet your kitchen sink have a look at this guide best stainless steel kitchen sinks which talks in detail for the best kitchen sinks.

2. Install the water supply

For this step you must make sure that the Control Keys are installed.

In case they are not installed, you can do it in 3 easy steps:

  • Check that the water pipe threads are clean.
  • Place sealing tape on the threads. *Tip: When putting the sealing tape, do it in a clockwise direction, because this will prevent it from coming loose. 3 to 4 turns of tape are sufficient.
  • Install the control key. *Tip: Screw it in counterclockwise until you hear or feel it click; then screw it in clockwise, tightening as necessary. This way you will not damage the water supply thread.
  • If your preparation has only copper or CPVC pipe, you can purchase Compression Control Wrenches, which will allow you to do the installation without the need for adapters.

3. Install the Counterbalances

Whether you are installing a single or double sink, the steps to install the Basket Counter are as follows:

  • Make sure the sink surface is clean.
  • Place the Basket Body and Expanded Polyethylene Gaskets on top of the sink. You can use one or both gaskets, depending on the conditions of the installation.
  • At the bottom, place the rubber ring and cardboard packaging.
  • Screw on and tighten the lock nut with the appropriate tool.
  • Check the product sheets or installation instructions according to the model of the lock nut you are going to install.

4. Install the trap or sink outlet

In choosing a trap you should consider: 1) what space you have for your installation; 2) the height of the pipe in your wall drain; and 3) whether there are any misaligned drainage conditions*. Read more about choosing a trap here.

Once you have chosen the Trap or Sink Outlet model you wish to install, remember that a Universal Sucker must be placed on the pipe in your wall drain to ensure that your trap installation maintains a seal and does not leak.

*Note: In conditions of misaligned drainage the connection between the device and the pipe is out of phase by more than 10 cm, i.e. the pipe is up, down, right or left of centre, so the trap cannot be installed regularly.

5. Connect the kitchen mixer tap

Install the control key connectors to the kitchen faucet. In places where there is little space to insert a tool, we recommend the flexible connectors with the Adjustment Wrench, since you can make the manual adjustment on both ends of the connector without the need for tools.

If you plan to use a single-handle, use nickel-plated adapters. These will allow you to convert its 3/8″ COMP. input to ½” F.N.P.T. in order to use the flexible connector.

6. Let the water run!

Once everything has been installed, leave the water running to check your installation for leaks.

– Plug the drain and wait until the water reaches the middle of the trough.

– When it reaches the middle, unclog the drain and check that no connections are leaking.
