Van Aubel’s unique incorporation of solar cells adds a burst of color and energy to the sculpture, making it a truly mesmerizing experience. This project, which is van Aubel’s first public endeavor in Miami, was brought to life with the help of the renowned design firm Random Studio, known for their expertise in spatial and experience design.

The installation draws inspiration from the time it takes for sunlight to reach the Earth. It utilizes Organic Photovoltaics (OPV), a type of solar cell that is transparent and vibrant in color. These solar cells are incorporated into the design of the LF-ZC concept car, creating a graphic pattern that accurately represents the vehicle in its true size.

The installation comes to life when viewers interact with it, as it responds to their movements and allows them to explore different perspectives. Four motion sensors trigger the illumination of light, which then ripples across the base of the installation, resembling the movement of water.

At unexpected intervals, the installation transforms into a captivating spectacle, with light cascading across it and a melody crescendoing. This dynamic display mirrors the energy and motion of the car, providing a sensory experience of driving. As the day progresses, the warm hues of sunrise reflected in the OPV sheets gradually transition into cooler tones.

Throughout the day, the sculpture harnesses solar power by drawing energy from the OPV sheets. This energy is accumulated and stored in discreetly placed batteries within the base of the sculpture. Over time, this continuous absorption of solar energy results in a reservoir of power that sustains the captivating displays and features of the installation.

The installation also emits an ambient melody that blends together warm string instruments, soft piano, and chimes, creating a harmonious atmosphere with the surrounding environment. Occasionally, the melody is enhanced with sounds of birdsong and other effects. Additionally, the composition incorporates subtle notes of woody bamboo, paying homage to the original car’s interior material. This integration of bamboo essence into the auditory experience adds depth and connection to the overall artistic concept.
