Tips for Redecorating with Living Room Sets

Tips for Redecorating with Living Room Sets

Whether you are starting from scratch in your first home or redecorating for something different, getting a new living room set can highlight the process. There are a lot of different types of living room sets, and they come with many optional pieces included. You should be able to find something that works for you fairly quickly.

However, there are a few things you need to keep in mind before purchasing your living room set. Here are a few.

Start with a color scheme and style in mind

There are so many different options for living room sets, especially when you shop online furniture stores. If you start searching without something specific in mind, you could spend hours browsing through different furniture collections.

Start by deciding what colors you want to feature in your living room and what style you would like to have. There are many options, including contemporary, industrial, modern, traditional, transitional, coastal, farmhouse, country cottage or shabby chic, and more.

Check measurements and create patterns

Once you find a living room set that you like, check the dimensions with the furniture store or manufacturer to know that it will fit the way you want. Create a pattern for each piece in the collection that you want for your living room, and have fun laying them out in different positions until you find the arrangement that works for you.

Of course, if you find that the furniture will not fit the way you’d hoped, you might need to pick a different living room set or cut back on the number of pieces you purchase.

Pull furniture away from the walls

While you are laying out your patterns, try to arrange the furniture without pushing pieces against the walls. Of course, you need to put heavy furniture like bookcases along a wall for support, but your accent chairs and sofa should be delegated to the middle of the room, creating a cozy spot for conversation.

Pulling furniture away from the walls also gives you clear pathways through the living room, which can be important for those with children, pets, or disabilities.

Don’t forget accent tables and coffee tables

Your guests will need somewhere to set their drinks and other items while visiting, so don’t forget to add accent tables, coffee tables, console tables, or cocktail tables.

Accent tables should be placed near armchairs and give you a place to add a reading lamp or other décor. Coffee or cocktail tables are a great way to provide a surface for your guests sitting on the sofa, and you can jazz them up by adding some coffee table books to spark conversation.

If you get a sectional, you might opt instead for a console table pushed the back of the sectional. Add some décor to the console table, but make sure you leave plenty of surfaces open for drinks, etc.
