The Forest Villa, a creation by HAS design and research, is a remarkable structure that beautifully integrates with its natural surroundings. One of its standout features is the careful attention given to the walls, which serve as functional elements that connect and define spaces without creating barriers.
These walls adapt to different situations, sometimes becoming thicker to accommodate open compartments, technical recesses, or niches. In other instances, they incorporate metal plates that extend outward, framing glimpses of the forest. When these fragments are pieced together, they create a captivating panorama within the rooms, establishing an intimate and ever-changing relationship between the home and nature.
Furthermore, these walls also act as valves, allowing refreshing breezes and warm sunlight to flow through the villa. They seamlessly blur the boundaries between the interior and exterior spaces, creating a harmonious connection. For instance, along the perimeter, there are spaces specifically designed to serve as privileged areas for either the dining room or a gallery.
These spaces, born from the fusion of the garden’s natural beauty and the kitchen’s intimate atmosphere, form a unique and ambiguous relationship that can be reimagined with each use. It is a hybrid space that effortlessly bridges the gap between the indoors and outdoors, offering a truly immersive experience.
Another important factor to consider is the creation of the section, which features an underground courtyard replicating a miniature landscape. This clever design element allows natural light to filter into the underground areas, such as a spacious living room with high ceilings and multiple areas dedicated to art and culture. Moreover, it fosters a deeper connection with nature, extending beyond what is found on the surface.
Furthermore, it is worth noting that the house is situated near another residence on its eastern side. In contrast, the remaining three sides are enclosed by a perimeter wall that embraces the ever-changing seasonal forest. Out of the total of five levels, only three extend above ground level. These above-ground levels culminate in a meditation space that is intricately linked to the vibrant colors, soothing sounds, and captivating scents of the forest.
Notably, the undersides of the ceilings on the upper floors are uniquely shaped, adding a distinctive touch to the overall design. Additionally, a gap between the wall and ceiling in certain rooms allows for the passage of natural light. The underground levels have been thoughtfully designed with double heights and strategically placed openings to ensure ample lighting and ventilation throughout the space.
