Aptera Motors has officially pulled back the curtain on its highly anticipated production-intent solar electric vehicle (SEV) at CES 2025, showcasing a radical approach to personal transportation. Developed in collaboration with renowned design house Pininfarina, the Aptera SEV boasts groundbreaking aerodynamics and integrated solar technology, promising a future where daily commutes could be entirely powered by the sun.
The unveiling marked a significant step towards realizing Aptera’s vision of sustainable mobility. The SEV, designed for minimal energy consumption, promises that most drivers will rarely, if ever, need to plug in for daily use. The key to this remarkable efficiency lies in the vehicle’s exceptional aerodynamics, honed through a close partnership with Pininfarina.Using Pininfarina’s advanced Wind Tunnel in Grugliasco, Turin, Aptera meticulously refined its design, achieving one of the lowest drag coefficients ever seen in a production passenger vehicle. This achievement sets a new standard for energy efficiency within the automotive industry.

The collaboration between Aptera and Pininfarina, which began during the early stages of aerodynamic design validation, proved crucial in achieving the vehicle’s impressive performance. The showcased vehicle at CES 2025, equipped with 700 watts of integrated solar cells, demonstrated its potential to generate up to 40 miles of solar-powered driving per day. This translates to daily, charge-free commuting for many drivers. Beyond its solar capabilities, the Aptera boasts a total range of up to 400 miles on a single charge, ensuring ample range for longer journeys.
