The retro trend shows no signs of slowing down and has become an incredibly popular way to makeover the home. The retro era roughly encompasses the years between the 1950s and 1980s, so anything from this time period would be considered to fit in with the retro aesthetic.

There are many reasons why retro is having a renaissance, from people wanting to feel connected to times gone by or simply in order to enjoy some flower power vibes, indulging in a retro-feel home makeover that will lift your spirits.

If you aren’t sure where to start yet, here are some ideas to help put your plan into action:

Floral Prints

Floral prints were big news back in the day and have had a resurgence in recent years. If you are looking to capture the retro trend for your home, look to find furniture, wallpaper, and carpets which are covered in bright, bold florals to really nail the trend. The colour scheme is also up to you, however, if you’re really looking to go all-out with the retro trend, look more towards earth tones such as beige and brown shades with flashes of orange or red running throughout to ensure you really capture the retro trend. Avoid any colours that are particularly vibrant unless you want to incorporate a modern twist.

Trinkets

Another great way to deck out your home with a retro makeover is by incorporating trinkets from times gone by. You may wish to look at old-fashioned clocks and radios, or ornaments which hark back to this era. There are plenty of options when it comes to places you can purchase these kinds of items from, such as charity shops or online specialist outlets. Do some shopping in the right places to find home accessories which will set off the theme excellently.

Wall Signs

If you’re looking to makeover your home at the latter-end of the retro era, then perhaps you’ll be looking at perhaps opting more for bold-style graphics and neon light signs to add to your home. To make the signs really pop, stick with a muted colour scheme on your walls and make the neon sign or graphic the accent feature in each room. Look for inspiration from the likes of Andy Warhol or Roy Lichtenstein, whose pop art movement helped inspire many homeowner’s décor style.

It’s easy to see why the retro movement has come back into the fore when it comes to where we take interiors inspiration from. From bold floral prints to quaint antiques, the retro period offers a plethora of design inspiration and fits in seamlessly with the current trend of bringing the outdoors indoors and transforming the home into a peaceful refuge. If you’re considering giving your home a makeover, then look to consider reviving old-school styles and going all out to bring that period back to life to give your home a unique look that is sure to stir nostalgia.
